We currently emit an average of 555 tonnes of green house gases every  year.

We consume 60 tonnes of paper every year.

For every tonne of paper we use each year, we need an area of forest about the size of 5 football pitches to produce it.

So that's 300 football fields of trees.

So what are we doing to do about it?

1.  We have a green team.

2.  All computers have applied energy saving settings.

3.  We encourage the double sided printing of documents.

4.  We recycle our waste.

5.  We have created signage and posters that encourage the recycling message.

6.  We are implementing energy efficient flow restrictors on taps, efficient lighting and water saving

     toilets.

7.  We encourage the switching off of lights when leaving your office.

8.  All of our computers are turned off when leaving for the day.

9.  We encouraging the recycling of paper for notes pads.

10. Our heating and cooling start up and shut down periods are automatically timed.

11. We no longer handing out printed notes at presentations. We email these for people to keep

      electronically.

12. We are encouraging our clients to use electronic technology to pass on information, i.e. email rather

      than post.

13. We send and receive our faxes via email.

14. We have a project team working on making our office completely paperless.

15. We have blinds on all external windows of our building to assist with heating and cooling efficiencies.

16. We disposal of old office equipment to recyclers and/or donated to charity for auction.

17. We use green garbage bags.

Other initiatives under investigation:

1.  Timer lights in toilets.

2.  Recycled paper for our stationery and plain paper.

3.  Waterless urinals.

4.  Recycled toilet paper.

5.  Hand towels for toilets rather than paper.

6.  Installation of grey water system.

7.  Kitchen sink taps being replaced with a swish sink nozzle.

8.  Window installation to assist with natural lighting rather than electric lighting.

9.  Non toxic cleaning products.

10. Developing a policy to buy recycled office supplies.

11. Screening the film An Inconvenient Truth to all staff.

Why we are changing our habits?

The earth is naturally insulated by a delicate balance of heat-trapping (or "greenhouse") gases in the atmostphere. When the sun shines on the Earth, some of that heat is absored, keeping Earth warm enough to support life.

The prolbme is that over the last centruy, we humans have been releasing more and more carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere when we burn fuels and cut down forests. These additional gases have upset the natural balance of our atmosphere, trapping more heat than is healthy for the Earth.

The result is human-caused blobal warming, which brings serious threats from increased flooding to the speard of disease to the disruption of agriculture in many parts of the world.

Scientists tell us that stopping global warming is urgent! We ahve just a few years to turn around the growth of greenhouse gas emissions in order to avoid the worst effects.

The good news is that we can achieve these emission reductions with effective national policies nad international treaties. We must insist that businesses and governments join individuals around the world to greatly increase energy efficiency, widely adopt renewable energy, and commit to stopping the climate change.

Success is possible but it needs everyones help!

Facts

An average Australian household generates around 14 tonnes of greenhouse gas each year.

We are consuming about 20% more of the worlds natural resources each year than the planet can sustain.

More than a billion people in the world today are denied access to safe water.

Water saving shower heads use close to 50% less water.

One return flight to Australia will use as much as all the energy to heat and power your home for up to 6 years.

Some of the bigges savings come from very simple things!
